Russia does not expect any positive steps from the US and is ‘in constant expectation’ of some negative, at the same time Moscow is in favor of pragmatic relations between the two countries, Russian ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said in the framework of the youth forum in New York.
"It's one thing - we need to improve these relations, and yet, every day, we are waiting for possible negative steps towards our country," Antonov said, adding that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is in touch with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, RIA Novosti reported.
Russia is not afraid of US sanctions, and all attempts by the US to use the sanctions against Russia are doomed to failure, the Russian ambassador said.
"All the attempts to use these sanctions against Russia, against our president, they are doomed definitely to failure, we are not afraid of the sanctions ... we will survive, but I am firmly convinced that when we are together with Americans, we will be able to defeat any enemy," Antonov said, stressing that Russia is interested in developing equal, pragmatic, mutually respectful relations with the United States, and the field is enormous: everything depends only on the political will of our colleagues from the United States.
The Russian ambassador also expressed the hope that the Russian Federation and the United States will still be able to implement all the plans that exist for the development of the Russian-American relations.
Also, Russia counts on the fact that the US will not break the agreement on Iran's nuclear program, "Anatoly Antonov said.
The Russian diplomat believes that the agreements reached by six countries and Iran must be observed.
"We expect the US to take reasonable steps with respect to this situation, we do not want any aggravation and breakdown in the implementation of this deal," the Russian ambassador to the United States said.
