Russia ranks 5th in overall medals standings after Day 2 at Tokyo Olympics

The Russian national team of athletes finished in the fifth place of the overall medals standings after Day 2 of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in the Japanese capital of Tokyo, which kicked off on July 23.

As of today, the Russian national team in Tokyo, where it participates under the name of the Team ROC (the Russian Olympic Committee) due to international sanctions against Russian sports, boasts one gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

On Sunday,.Russian athletes won one gold, three silver, and one bronze medals. They were won by Vitalina Batsarashkina (gold) in women’s 10-meter air pistol competition; Svetlana Gomboeva, Elena Osipova and Ksenia Perova (silver) in archery team team competition; Inna Deriglazova (silver) in women’s foil competition; Tatiana Minina (silver) in women’s 57kg taekwondo competition; and Larisa Korobeynikova (bronze) in women’s foil competition.

In all, 18 sets of medals were contested on Sunday.

The medal standings are topped by China (6-1-4). It is followed by Japan (5-1-0), and the United States (4-2-4).
