Russia's Mamayev and Kokorin facing charges over cafe attack on civil servant

Two Russian footballer players, Alexander Kokorin and Pavel Mamaev, implicated in past scandals have come under investigation this week for initiating two fights in Moscow, including an assault on a federal official.

Moscow police announced that they had opened a criminal battery case into a fight between two men and a victim at a cafe on Monday.

In addition, the Russian Interior Ministry confirmed it is investigating the incident in which the pair are said to have attacked Trade Ministry official Denis Pak on Monday, after he reportedly complained about the behavior of the two footballers and a group of friends, RT reported.

Kokorin’s club FC Zenit St. Petersburg and Mamaev’s FC Krasnodar have both publicly condemned their players’ actions. FC Krasnodar said that it was seeking to annul Mamaev’s contract.
