Russia takes gold, silver in rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around

For the second consecutive Summer Olympics, Russia took gold and silver in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around.

Margarita Mamun took gold with a total score of 76.483, beating out teammate and three-time individual all-around world champion Yana Kudryavtseva (75.608). While Kudryavtseva posted the highest score in three apparatuses (hoop, ball and ribbon), Mamun posed the second-best score on each. The difference between gold and silver was the clubs portion of the competition, with Mamun’s score of 19.050 ranking first among the finalists with Kudryavtseva’s score of 17.883 ranking fifth.

Ukraine’s Anna Rizatdinova took bronze with a score of 73.583, her nation’s fifth Olympic medal in the history of the event.

American Laura Zeng did not qualify for the final, as she finished 11th with the top ten in Friday’s qualification rounds advancing to Saturday’s final.
