Russia to complete construction of North-South corridor's last section in Iran

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russian Railways will complete the construction of the North-South international transport corridor's last section in Iran. The President noted that a trial train run has already been conducted.

"There is one specific Rasht-Astara section of 146 kilometers on Iranian territory. Azerbaijan is interested in the construction of this section. We recently met with President Aliyev at the Caspian Summit, we discussed this issue. Iran is also interested in construction, our Iranian partners have just confirmed. Russia is interested, because we will have direct access to the Persian Gulf from the north of Russia, from St. Petersburg. It's a very interesting and promising route," Vladimir Putin said in the first place.

"The issue is how to build this section. The Russian side is ready to do this. We need to agree on the conditions for this construction. We have discussed it with our Iranian partners and friends; I repeat: we have clarified this issue with Azerbaijan. I hope we will get to work now. Moreover, we are interested in this work, in fact, this is the export of our services for Russian Railways," the President of Russia noted.
