Russia will deploy new S-400 surface-to-air missile systems on the Crimean peninsula by the end of the year, spokesman for the Russian Southern Military District Vadim Astafyev said.
The new S-400 systems would be operational by the end of the year, RIA Novosti reported.
The S-400 Triumph defence system replaced the S-300P and S-200 air defence systems. The S-400 is two-times more effective than previous Russian air defence systems and can be deployed within five minutes. It can also be integrated into the existing and future air defence units of the Air Force, Army, and the Navy.
