The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) thwarted almost 30 terrorism-related activities, including 15 terrorist attacks, over the nine months of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, UrduPoint reported.
"Over nine months this year, the FSB has prevented 26 terrorism-related crimes, including 15 terrorist attacks," Putin said during his meeting with the country's senior officers and prosecutors on the occasion of their promotion to higher ranks.
Putin added that the statistics was more than just figures as it meant that people's lives had been saved.
The president also said that the country's security services must continue their efficient work not only in the sphere of counterterrorism activities but also in their fight against extremism and corruptionand in their efforts to protect the country's borders and counteract foreign intelligence services.
"We have to continue to act as resolutely and efficiently as before, in close coordination with the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, to consistently curb the terrorism threat, above all, via [obtaining] timely intelligence, [and via] calculated, preventive actions," Putin added.
