In the first half of 2025, the EU purchased Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) worth €4.5 billion, confirming its position as one of the largest buyers, according to Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Economic Cooperation Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"For many decades, supplies of Russian resources have ensured Europe's energy security and supported its economic competitiveness. The EU still remains a major buyer of domestic raw materials. In the first half of 2025, LNG imports amounted to €4.5 billion, compared to €3.5 billion a year earlier",

Dmitry Birichevsky said.

The West's politicized actions have prompted Russia to accelerate the modernization of the fuel and energy complex and work to diversify sales markets, the diplomat noted in a conversation with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the EEF-2025
