Russian Foreign Ministry welcomes Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Baku

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, gave a positive assessment to the Non-Aligned Movement Summit, which opens in Baku tomorrow.

"We believe that the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Baku is an important event. We are its guests - the summit will be attended by our delegation," he said first of all.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stressed the participation of the UN high representative as an evidence of the importance of the NAM Summit in Baku. "Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo will be present at the summit," Sergei Vershinin drew attention.
 

"The agenda of the summit is rich and serious, a final statement is being prepared. Members of the NAM are discussing hundreds of issues, both regional and general. As far as I know, the Karabakh issue is one items on the agenda," the deputy foreign minister said.

"We have great respect for the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement and will be pleased to attend the summit at the invitation that we have received," Sergey Vershinin concluded.

The 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement will be held in Baku on October 25-26. The event will be attended by foreign ministers, heads of state and government and other senior representatives. The chairmanship in the organization was handed over to Azerbaijan yesterday.
