Russian military bases Khmeimim and Tartus will not only continue to function in Syria after the end of the military operation, but will also develop for the long term, the head of the State Duma Defense Committee Vladimir Shamanov said.
"Both bases in Syria - Khmeimim, and Tartus - will not only continue to function, but will constantly improve their qualities and capabilities," Interfax cited Shamanov as saying.
He said that a "period of post-conflict settlement has come on the territory of Syria with its complexities and peculiarities, but Russia has accumulated vast experience as a result of the so-called first and second campaigns in the Caucasus".
"We have something to share with our Syrian colleagues and other guarantors of the peace process in Syria," Shamanov added.
According to him, the plan for implementing the post-conflict settlement will be clarified together with colleagues, including the schedule for the withdrawal of a certain number of forces and means, but it will be determined by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
