Russian concerned about IS influence in Afghanistan

Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Anatoly Antonov, said at the 3rd meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) defense ministers and dialogue partners that Russia is concerned about the concentration of IS militants in Afghanistan’s north, near its borders with Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as by their growing influence in the country.

"We are noting the growing influence of IS in Afghanistan that gained a foothold in 25 out of 34 provinces of the country. We are concerned about the concentration of militants in the northern areas near the borders with Tajikistan and Turkmenistan," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
