Russian diplomats on Saturday celebrate their professional holiday – diplomatic worker’s Day.
This holiday was an anniversary for Russian diplomacy. Officially it was established in October 2002 by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, therefore, was first celebrated in 2003, exactly 15 years ago, Chelorg.com writes.
The history of modern Russian diplomacy began formally after collapse of the USSR and formation of Russian Federation as a new democratic state. In the 1990s the Russian diplomatic service had to work on the background of the complex internal factors — the transition to a new economic and political order and of radical changes in the international arena.
In its activities the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation today is guided by the «foreign policy Concept of the Russian Federation», approved by the RF President in 2016. In accordance with this document, Russia’s foreign policy is aimed at solving tasks such as ensuring national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country, creation of favorable conditions for sustainable economic growth, strengthening international peace and stability, enhancing global security, improving the role of the UN, bilateral and multilateral relations. The key principles of Russian foreign policy are independence, openness, predictability, pragmatism, multi-vector, and a focus on the pursuit of national interests.
On the Day of the diplomatic worker of the Russian foreign Ministry traditionally holds the solemn meeting, during which with welcome speech delivered by the Minister, representatives of other Federal government agencies, recognized by the award-winning foreign service officers and veterans.
A solemn meeting on the occasion of diplomat’s day of this year took place on Thursday. On it the Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov read out a congratulatory message from President Vladimir Putin, Chelorg.com notes.
«I hope that Russian diplomats will continue to work creatively and with dedication. The key to your success is provided to the foreign policy of broad support from Russian society. I sincerely wish all the employees of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of new achievements, and distinguished veterans of diplomatic service — good health, good spirits and longevity,» Lavrov read out President’s message.
The Minister also said that the congratulation to employees and veterans of the Russian foreign Ministry has sent a number of representatives of the country’s leadership, including Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, deputies, heads of ministries, regions and business community.
