Russian parliament's upper house to step up cooperation with Turkish legislators

Russia's Federation Council plans to step up cooperation with Turkish lawmakers, its speaker Valentina Matvienko said on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived in St. Petersburg for first talks to reset bilateral relations after the November 2015 downing of a Russian aircraft by Turkey, Sputnik writes.

"The Council of the Federation [Russian parliament's upper house] plans to step up dialogue with Turkish legislators and promote regional cooperation," Matvienko told journalists.

The Russian legislator added that Russia and Turkey have to combine efforts in fight against terrorism in a bid to improve global and regional security.
