The ruble tumbled to a near four-week low on Tuesday, at one point losing more than 9% to hit 60 against the dollar.
By 10:18 GMT, the rouble was 8.2% weaker against the dollar at 59.79, earlier hitting 60.40, its weakest point since June 8.
The unit had lost 6.1% to trade at 61.35 versus the euro, earlier slipping to its weakest since June 10 of 62.01.
