Russian upper house speaker says Russia set 'high standards' for future World Cups

Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matviyenko says that it would be tough for future World Cup hosts to reach the "high standards" set by Russia this year.

"We've set such high standards that it will be tough to reach them at the future World Cups," Matviyenko said during a meeting with FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, FourFourTwo Australia reported.

Matviyenko added that Russia's performance at the home tournament would "go down in history" of football.

"Our national team has achieved a true feat, it played brilliantly at the World Cup," the speaker said.
