Russians commemorate victims of Beslan terror

Rallies in memory of those, who were killed in the attack on Beslan school Number 1 are taking place in various regions of Russia today. The terrorist attack occurred in the North Ossetian town of Beslan 11 years ago. Moscow residents remember the victims of the terrorists: mourning rallies are being held simultaneously in places of the capital where terrorist attacks have taken place over the years.

Activists of social organizations and residents of the capital came to honor the memory of those who were killed in the Theater Center on Dubrovka, at the metro stations Park Kultury, Lubyanka, Avtozavodskaya and Rizhskaya, at the underpass near the metro station Pushkinskaya, at Guryanov Street and at the Kashirskoye highway, as well as the National Hotel, at Domodedovo Airport, the Volokolamsk Highway, and at the site of the explosion at Tushino airfield. They laid flowers and observed a minute of silence.

At the memorial meeting representatives of public organizations of Moscow called for measures to be taken against terrorism. ‘‘We remember all the victims of the terrorist attacks and protest against those who encourage criminals, incite hatred, sow the seeds of evil, and proclaim killers as heroes. "Stop! Come to your senses! Your values are sly and false! We say no to violence in all its manifestations! Let the world be ruled by the all-conquering power of love and friendship!’’

On the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism, a rally of memory took place in Moscow, near the monument to the victims of Beslan in the center of Moscow on Solyanka Street. People brought flowers, toys, chocolates and photographs. The meeting was attended by the mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor's office representatives, representatives of public organizations, schoolchildren, students, Moscow residents and guests of the city. They held a minute's silence, after which they released 334 white balloons – the number of those who were killed in Beslan.

A member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and representative of the legislative body of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Alexander Totoyonov, said on the Day of Solidarity of the Fight against Terrorism that there is a notion that the events that occurred 11 years ago can be called into serious doubt.

"It is said that time heals all wounds. But I am deeply convinced that after another 20, 30 or even 40 years, the tragedy in Beslan will remain forever in the memory of any normal person, like the biblical story of the massacre of the innocents. And not only those who lived through that time and became unwilling witnesses. I think that all this will be passed on from generation to generation, because there is no more edification for all living than the tragedy of innocent children, which took place in the unknown-by-anyone city of Beslan," he stressed.
