The governor of the Odessa Oblast, Mikheil Saakashvili, has accused the Russian authorities of working on a Bessarabia project.
"I'm ashamed to say it, but until recently Vladimir Putin has thought about Ukrainian Bessarabia more than our own government," Gazeta.ru cited him as saying.
The Odessa Governor noted that people in the region are currently isolated, and Ukraine sees only "greedy bureaucrats" and "terrible roads."
