Saakashvili's party transformed the Georgian opposition

The United National Movement party, the Republican Party, the State for the People Movement, the We - By Ourselves Movement and Progress and Freedom Movement are united in a single opposition electoral bloc.

They will run for the upcoming October 31 parliamentary elections as the Power in Unity bloc.

"Over the past months, the society has been wondering if the united opposition has disintegrated," said UNM chairman Grigol Vashadze at the presentation of the bloc.

"Not only we did not disintegrate, we also gained new forces and resources," Sputnik Georgia quoted him as saying.

Vashadze promised that "the union, which was created in 2018, will achieve a decisive victory in the parliamentary elections."

The chairman of the Republican Party Khatuna Samnidze, explaining the decision to unite with the National Movement, said that she considered it one of the most influential opposition parties in Georgia.

"The Republicans decided to unite with the National Movement, creating the Power in Unity electoral bloc, in order to contribute to the creation of a new coalition government in the country," she stressed.

The opposition group "Strength in Unity" was created in 2018 for the presidential elections. Its candidate, Grigol Vashadze, took second place, losing to incumbent President Salome Zurabishvili in the second round.
