Salome Zourabichvili: Domestic violence is a new phenomenon and in my opinion it is related to the loss of men's rank

“This is a stereotypical opinion! Women have played a very important role in the history of Georgia”, - the Georgian President said in an interview with LA FIGARO in response to a question that some observers say that Georgia remains a conservative country.

"First of all, it should be noted that Georgia was converted to the Christian religion by a woman. Later, during the Georgian renaissance and golden age, the country was ruled by a woman who was called a "king". All this affected the relationship between men and women. Everyone was employed during the Soviet period. Women became even stronger after the collapse of the Soviet Union. As for men, they had the mission of defending the country earlier, and they were trying to get back their role", - Zourabichvili said, InterPressNews reports.

When asked by a journalist that all of this is related to domestic violence, Zourabichvili responded by saying: "Yes, this is a new phenomenon and in my opinion it is related to the loss of men's "rank". This is also reflected in the Georgian economic emigration: mostly women emigrate and send their wages to men who remain in the country".
