Iran's Lake Urmia may disappear forever. The natural resource is beyond restoration.

According to satellite images, Iran's Lake Urmia has dried up by 95%. The reasons for this are the aggressive use of the lake's waters and the country's climate. Every year, Iran experiences severe droughts.

Experts note that climate change and the construction of dams could have contributed to the depletion of Lake Urmia.

The country has repeatedly raised the issue of taking measures to preserve this natural heritage site. Initiatives to change the country's water use policy have been put forward, but the discussions have led nowhere, Iranian media report.
