Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev held a meeting with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani in Tehran. The parties discussed cooperation between the two countries in the transportation sector, according to the Russian government's website.
"Vitaly Savelyev, Deputy Chairman of the Government and the Russian President's Special Representative for the Development of the International North–South Transport Corridor, visited Iran. During the visit, negotiations were held with Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the statement reads.
The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation in transport, including the North–South International Transport Corridor. It was emphasized that the development of this transport corridor is one of the key areas of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
Savelyev noted that rail container transit from Russia via Iran has increased. He also highlighted the successful operation of the regular container service launched in 2022 along the eastern route of the North-South ITC.
In addition, the meeting participants discussed in detail the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in financing and constructing the Rasht-Astara railway in Iran, which was signed in 2023.
