Under current contracts, Russian gas supplies must be paid in dollars or euros, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.
"Fixed contracts are everywhere with the currency in which the deliveries are to be paid being part of these contracts.This is what should work", he said at the press conference following the meeting of the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) in Brussels.
"In most cases, the euro or the dollar is indicated there", Scholz said. According to him, "these are the points from which we must proceed".
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that payments for gas supplies to "unfriendly countries" are being converted into rubles. It should be noted that Russia supplies Europe with about 40% of the total gas consumed by the region
