UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Russia, Sergei Lavrov and Zavid Zalkaliani, which was first in 11 years, Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement.
"The Secretary-General welcomes the 26 September meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and the Russian Federation, facilitated by Switzerland, on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York," the statement reads.
It was also noted that the Secretary‑General hopes that it will contribute to overall peace and security in the region.
