Shoigu: Russia beefs up its force grouping in Crimea

Russia’s force grouping in Crimea has been increased and ensures protection of the peninsula’s territory, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told a meeting of the State Duma’s Defense Committee.

"The force grouping in Crimea has been reinforced, this ensures protection of the peninsula’s territory and Russia’s interests in the Black Sea," the minister stressed.

He added that Russia’s Armed Forces have received over 200 intercontinental ballistic missiles, both land-based and submarine-launched, since 2012.

"As a result, in the past six years, the Armed Forces received 109 Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles and 108 submarine-launched ballistic missiles," TASS cited the minister as saying.

Shoigu added out that in accordance with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Decrees of May 2012, the Defense Ministry had developed a plan of activities to 2020.
