Preparation has started for the filming of a Ukraine-Kazakhstan joint film about Taras Shevchenko, regarded by many as the father of Ukrainian literature.

Shooting for Tarazi. Bidding a farewell to the desert is set to take place this year in Ukraine’s Odessa region and in the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan. Filming will be held in particular at the New Petrovsky fort in Mangystau, where Shevchenko spent his military service, The Calvert Journal wrote.

The film, which has a budget of 44,800,000 hryvnias (approx. US$1.7 million), is due to be released in autumn 2017 and is written and directed by  Alexander Denisenko, who won the film script competition held to mark the 200th anniversary of Shevchenko’s birth.
