Three gunmen opened fire overnight on a cafe in the Iraqi town of Balad, killing at least 12 and wounding 25 people, police and hospital sources said.
The assailants sprayed machine gun fire from their cars for around 10 minutes before speeding off, Reuters reports.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
