Snowstorms halt transport between Russia and Georgia

The Military-Georgian Road is closed due to relentless snowstorms in the southern part of the North Caucasus - all traffic has been halted on the route. This includes the section from Vladikavkaz to Verkhny Lars.

According to the North Ossetia-Alania Emergency Situations Ministry, a decision was made this afternoon to temporarily suspend ground transport links between Russia and Georgia via the Military-Georgian Road, which remains the only direct land route between the two countries.

Rescuers in North Ossetia clarified that the Military-Georgian Road is closed to all types of transport. They currently have no information on when traffic might resume.

These days, strong snowfalls are battering the North Caucasus, leading to halted traffic on several railway lines in Krasnodar Krai as well.
