Soros: EU is collapsing, Russia is reviving

The US billionaire George Soros admitted he is losing hope for his plans. The businessman said that he sees Russia emerging as a global power as the European Union collapses, in much the same way as the EU flourished when the Soviet Union started to fall apart.

At the same time, Soros said he felt "more than ever" that the EU's destiny hinged on Ukraine's future. European countries have lost billions of dollars due to the cessation of trade with Russia after the introduction of sanctions, which, apparently, will be extended at the request of Washington, the investor expects. If this is the future that awaits the EU, the British have even more reasons to vote for secession from the Union on June 23, the billionaire noted.

Nevertheless, Axis of Logic writes that Soros did not abandon the European dream completely. He published an article in the Guardian saying that the UK’s withdrawal from the EU would devaluate the pound sterling.

It is obvious that the billionaire is experiencing severe disappointments in connection with the difficult period in which he is trying to create a new order. Russia is not set up for cooperation and Europe's population supports the parties, which are skeptical about the EU, while American voters prefer Donald Trump.

An associate professor of Stock Markets and Financial Engineering of RANEPA, Vasiliy Yakimkin, speaking with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, emphasized that Soros is not a person who is allowed to evaluate Russia, even if his words seem positive, in fact they are not.
"Mr. Soros has always had a prejudice against Russia and hated Russia and the Russians, plotting intrigues against us. Now he just keeps doing it. I do not agree with his words that Russia "has become a power" – Russia has always been a great power, now it is strengthening, and Soros has no right to evaluate Russia. Our president Vladimir Putin says the right thing that if we manage to live another 20 years without wars and cataclysms, they won't know Russia," he said.

"Soros makes such statements to warn the Western establishment that it is dangerous to let Russia go, because in that case it will rush forward with a speed of a rocket and they can't catch it. Our country is self-sufficient, and Soros is worried about it. They failed to suppress us with the sanctions: we passed the economic bottom and the growth has started. Giving a compliment, an American billionaire, in fact, urges the West to tighten the pressure on Russia, otherwise we will accelerate our development, while they will wallow in their problems and debts," Vasiliy Yakimkin concluded.

The President of the National Strategy Institute, Mikhail Remizov, expressed confidence that Soros not just address Russia, he tends to put pressure on the EU. "I think such a statement is linked to his desire to scare the European Union and to reproach eurosceptics who are playing into the hands of Moscow, shaking the intra-European unity. It is absolutely groundless in this case to take these compliments seriously," he stressed.
