Spain names street after Georgian judoka - media

A street in the town of Brunete, Spain, has been named after Georgian judoka Nikoloz Sherazadishvili, who competed for Spain at the world judo championship in Baku in September and emerged with a gold medal, becoming the first in the history of Spain to do so in the sport.

A festive opening of the street named Niko Shera was held on October 22, where the Brunete town mayor said that the aim of the Spanish government in naming the street was to express its gratitude to the athlete, Agenda.ge reported.

The Spanish media reports that Sherazadishvili, 22, moved to Spain when he was 14 years old with his family. Sherazadishvili began training in judo and water polo at 10 years old while he still lived in Georgia. In Spain he trained in a club ran by Quino Ruiz, in Brunete. He was granted Spanish citizenship in 2014.
