St. Petersburg to host CIS leaders informal summit on December 28

An informal summit of the heads of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held next week in St. Petersburg, Kazakhstan's ambassador to Russia Ermek Kosherbayev said on Wednesday.

"On December 28, 2021, an informal summit of the heads of the CIS member states will be held in St. Petersburg," RIA Novosti cited the ambassador as saying.

According to preliminary information, the informal summit will be personally chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Before the pandemic, informal meetings of CIS leaders on the eve of the New Year were held in St. Petersburg on a regular basis.

The CIS was formed in 1991, its current members are Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.
