State Department doesn't believe in imminent restoration of diplomatic ties with Iran

The US doesn't see any prerequisites for an early resumption of diplomatic relations with Iran, State Department spokesman John Kirby said.

"We do not have diplomatic relations with this country, and I do not see any prospects for this in the near future,'' RIA Novosti cites him as saying.

"We don't speak about it now. We mean that it is necessary to avoid Iran's ability to become a country with a nuclear weapon," the State Department spokesman said.
