The United States hopes that escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran over the execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr will not prevent meetings between the Syrian government and opposition planned for this month, US State Department spokesman John Kirby said.
"We still expect that meetings between opposition groups and regime can happen this month," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
