The New People party wants to submit a bill to the State Duma providing for the right of regions to ban the wearing of niqabs in public places.
According to RIA Novosti, deputies also suggested that educational institutions shoukd have the right to introduce a ban on niqabs.
The Party noted the need to restrict the wearing of clothing that hides a person's face.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Human Rights Council, Valery Fadeev, spoke out against niqabs and called for a ban on wearing them in Russia. He noted that a ban on wearing it had been established in a number of countries where the majority of citizens were Muslim.
