Stoltenberg: NATO should not try to isolate Russia

NATO should not seek to isolate Russia, the alliance needs to look for ways to send a political signal to Russia, the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, announced during his speech to the European Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

As one of the possible signals he names the deployment of additional forces of the alliance in Eastern Europe.

"There is no contradiction between a strong defense of NATO and dialogue with Russia. In Norway we led a successful dialogue on many issues with the Soviet Union and Russia, in particular on the issue of cross-border cooperation, fisheries, as well as on the military affairs, and it was, perhaps, precisely because Norway has been a member of NATO. It is what allows a small country to maintain relations with a big neighbor,’’ Tass quotes him as saying.
