The discussion at the G20 summit, which ended today in Antalya, was focused on political rather than economic issues due to the terrorist attacks Paris, in which 132 people were killed.
As an organization dealing with global issues of financial and economic cooperation, the G20 decided to change the format of the session. Nevertheless, the format has always been efficient enough so we can expect success in the implementation of the decisions, taken during the summit. The head of the expert council of G20 Sergey Drobyshevsky and scientific director of the International Discussion Club 'Valdai,' editor-in-chief of the magazine 'Russia in Global Affairs' Fyodor Lukyanov made such statements in an interview with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza.
According to the summit results, in addition to the pre-planned communiqué, the parties adopted a declaration on fighting terrorism. "We condemn in the most serious way the heinous terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13 and in Ankara on October 10th. They are unacceptable insults to all humanity,'' Tass cites the document.
The heads of state expressed their readiness to fight terrorism in all its forms, including taking steps to resist economic terrorism.
"We remain committed to actions directed at suppressing the financing of terrorism, particularly the extension of cooperation on data exchange and freezing of terrorist accounts, criminalization of terrorist financing and measures aimed at financial sanctions against regimes associated with terrorism," the document informs.
The heads of the G20 countries stressed that terrorism cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nation, civilization or ethnic group. The statement also underlines that attacks threaten measures to strengthen the global economy and achieve sustainable growth and development.
The head of the expert council of the G20, Sergey Drobyshevsky, drew attention to the fact that the changes in the agenda of the summit in the direction of the political sphere may negatively affect the success of the decisions.
"Almost the entire year during the Turkish presidency we were working on economic issues related to the implementation of investment, employment, energy security, development of small businesses in developing countries. Decisions were about to be taken in respect of them. Now we can see that the focus is made on political, rather than economic matters. Therefore, it is difficult to say when an answer to the current problems in the global economy will be given,'' he expressed doubts.
