Supreme Court retains life sentences for participants in attack on Nalchik

The judicial board on criminal cases of the Supreme Court of Russia hasn't changed the punishment for the five members of an armed attack on Nalchik in October 2005. They still have to serve life sentences. The other defendants have reduced periods.

Thus, the panel of judges refused to mitigate sentences to the following convicted: Eduard Mironov, Anzor Mashukov, Murat Bapinaev, Aslan Kuchmenov and Rasul Kudayev. Like other persons involved in the criminal case,  the duration of their punishment was reduced by a period from 20 days to a year.

In addition, a criminal case against Sergey Kaziev, who was sentenced to 14.5 years of imprisonment, was terminated, as he died in the detention center in Nalchik in August of last year, RIA Novosti reports.
