Syrian troops got close to "heart" of Daesh

Syrian Arab Army entered the province of Raqqa, which is considered to be the main stronghold of the Daesh terrorist group, which is banned in Russia.

As the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, located in London, reported, the government army, actively supported by aerospace forces of Russia, was able to break through the defensive positions of Daesh in Itria region in eastern Syrian province of Hama, and enter the neighboring province of Raqqa, RBC writes, referring to Reuters agency.

It is specified that the Syrian Arab Army entered Raqqa for the first time since 2014.

Yesterday, FARS news agency reported about fast advance of governmental forces, supported by Russian combat helicopters, which are not allowing terrorists to quickly regroup. Russian military aviation also carried out massive bombardments of Daesh positions in the eastern part of Hama province near the border of Raqqa province.

Earlier, Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported about the beginning of offensive operations in the direction of Raqqa. The main target of Damascus' army - the city of Al-Tabka in the vicinity of Raqqa.

According to a military source, Syrian troops, supported by Russian aerospace forces, took strategically important village of Abu Al-Ilyadzh and continue to move towards Al-Tabka, which is located at the distance of 30 km. At least two terrorists were captured, several militants were killed.

Syrian Arab Army also advances to the position of Daesh near the city of Deir ez-Zor. The government troops repelled the attack on two fronts: south and south-west of the city. Terrorists suffered many losses.

Deir ez-Zor is very important for militants, since oil fields are located near it.

Meanwhile, in the Syrian province of Aleppo, the militants of Daesh and another banned terrorist group "Jabhat al-Nusra" organized realignment of forces and increased their stocks of weapons, the representative of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Warring Sides in Syria said.

According to him, the units "Jabhat al-Nusra" took advantage of the fact that they are deployed in the same areas as the troops of "moderate opposition", which are not attacked by aerospace forces of Russia and air forces of Syria.

"Terrorist groups have no shortage of ammunition and weapons," he specified.
