The mayor of the Georgian capital, Kakha Kaladze, announced that Tbilisi authorities will launch a project in 2026 to buy out and replace dilapidated buildings in the historic part of the city.

The program involves the government purchasing real estate in Tbilisi's historic district. Kaladze emphasized that deteriorating buildings present significant challenges for residents.

"This is an issue of our city's identity, history, and cultural heritage. That's why it was crucial for us to find a proper and long-term solution to this problem",

Kakha Kaladze said.

According to Kaladze, the authorities will assess the purchased real estate at market value. While the buildings will retain their historical identity, the initiative will also create new opportunities for urban development.
