Tehran and Moscow to focus on developing cooperation in the nuclear sector

Iranian Atomic Energy Organization spokesman Behruz Kamalvandi said that the Islamic Republic and Russia intended to develop strategic nuclear cooperation.

"Nuclear cooperation was one of the issues of strategic importance at Wednesday's talks between Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin," he said in an interview with Press TV.

Kamalvandi emphasized that the problem of the nuclear industry could be divided into two parts, one of which is related and the other is not related to energy. "We are also talking about various types of radioisotopes used in medicine, industry, agriculture and other areas", TASS quoted him.

An official representative of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization also said that the presidents had spoken about the possibility of raising the level of the already "excellent" Iranian-Russian relations. Kamalvandi noted the joint project for the construction of additional units at the nuclear power plant in Bushehr, drew attention to the fact that Iran plans to generate at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity through nuclear power plants.

"Iran has developed a program to bring nuclear power generation to at least 10,000 megawatts," he said, adding that Russia could ensure the implementation of a very significant part of this program.

Let us remind you that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived on a visit to Russia on January 19. During the visit, he met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, and also spoke at the State Duma's meeting.
