The occupied territories around Nagorno-Karabakh should be put back under Azerbaijani control in accordance with the provisions of the document on which the parties are negotiating, the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan said.
According to him, the resolution of this issue depends entirely on the OSCE Minsk Group.
"The issue of returning the territories does not depend on us or on Azerbaijan, but on the authority that is authorized to resolve the conflict. If we do not do this voluntarily, then once the lands will be taken away by sanctions," Interfax cited Ter-Petrosyan as saying.
According to him, even if the Armenian side "captures Baku, the world will not let us do it anyway".
The first president of Armenia noted that the government should prepare the society for difficult but necessary decisions.
He added that if the current President Serzh Sargsyan follows this path, then "he will stand by him to the very end".
