Tokayev speaks about language reform's progress in Kazakhstan

According to the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, there is no need to hurry with the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet.

"First of all, this is a very difficult linguistic issue. This should also be understood. We have already tried to switch to the Latin script twice, but it was unsuccessful", he noted during a meeting of the National Kurultai.

The Head of state noted that it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of this issue.

"I instructed the Academy of Sciences to carry out special work on the Kazakh language's new spelling. Only then it will be possible to talk about the transition to the Latin alphabet", he said, emphasizing that there should be no hurry with the transition.

"Just look at the billboards on the street and the names of the ministries - our language is distorted", Tokayev added.
