Transneft stops inflow of oil in Makhachkala port

Russia's Transneft has stopped taking oil into its pipelines from the port of Makhachkala because of a higher than permitted water content, the aide to the president of Transneft Igor Demin said.

"This night we’ve again stopped taking oil into the system in Makhachkala due to a low quality of oil, as the water content amounted to 2.7%, while the maximum allowed content stands at 0.5%. The data of analysis shows high content of salts in the water similar to seawater," he said.

"This has been the 14th suspension of inflow since the beginning of the year because of an attempt of Dagnefteprodukt, which works in the port of Makhachkala as a transition link between the port and the system of Transneft, to pump oil with a water content above the regulatory level," Prime agency cited Demin as saying.
