A truck has crashed into a crowd of people in Stockholm, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported.

Swedish media say the vehicle crashed into a busy department store in central Stockholm.

“A vehicle has injured people on Drottningatan,” police spokeswoman Towe Hagg told Reuters.

At least five people are now confirmed dead and eight injured after the terror attack, Swedish broadcaster SVT reported

A witness told the newspaper: “I went to the main street when a big truck came out of nowhere. I could not see if anyone was driving it but it got out of control. I saw at least two being run over. I ran as fast as I could from there.”

Another witness told the newspaper they saw hundreds of people “running for their lives” outside the shopping centre.

The scene of the incident has been cordoned off by police.

Swedish Police are treating the incident as a possible terror attack, according to the SVT channel.

Swedish police are urging people to avoid central Stockholm around the downtown Sergels Torg square, and Swedish news agency TT says subway traffic has been shut down in the area.

And officers have ordered the evacuation of the central train station in Stockholm.
