U.S. President Donald Trump said, speaking during Polish President Andrzej Duda's visit to the White House, that European participants of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline project have a right to its realization.
But Trump added that he is considering a plan to impose sanctions on the project. "Well, we’re looking at it. Look, people have a right to do what they want to do. I think it’s a — you know, something that I’ve been looking at and I’m thinking about," he said when asked by reporters about possible U.S. sanctions against the pipeline.
The U.S. president criticized Germany for the decision to participate in the construction of the pipeline. "We’re protecting Germany from Russia and Russia is getting billions and billions of dollars from Germany," Trump said.
