It makes sense for Washington to get along with Moscow, U.S. President Donald Trump said, answering the question of what message he has for Secretary Mike Pompeo to send to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"The message is that there has never been anybody that’s been so tough on Russia, but at the same time we’re going to end up getting along with Russia," the White House website cited Trump as saying.
"It makes sense to get along with Russia," he stressed.
The U.S. leader added that nobody has sanctioned Russia and talked about the Nord Stream 2 pipeline like he has.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Sochi later today.
