Washington is ready for talks with Tehran, if they are ready, U.S. President Donald Trump said after meeting with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.
"The prime minister’s already spoken to me about that and I do believe that Iran would like to talk. And if they’d like to talk, we’d like to talk also," the U.S. leader said.
"We’ll see what happens ... nobody wants to see terrible things happen, especially me," the AP cited him Trump saying.
Earlier this week, the United States said it was deploying 1,500 additional troops to the Middle East to counter “credible threats” from Iran, with Tehran denouncing the move as “a threat to international peace.”
