The Turkish desire to become part of BRICS does not contradict its desire for the membership in the EU. The Ambassador of the Republic to China stated this in an interview with local media.

"The desire to join BRICS will not change Turkish attitude towards joining the European Union, but we are realistic. We have waited more than 50 years, but our European partners are still not ready to accept us as a full member",

Ismail Hakki Musa said.

The diplomat expressed doubt that Türkiye will be able to join the EU in the foreseeable future. In his opinion, the reluctance of EU countries to accept the republic is due to the fact that it belongs to a different cultural code.

Speaking about BRICS, Ismail Hakki Musa pointed out that Ankara's desire to join this bloc is quite logical, given its role in economics and geopolitics.

"BRICS is an international organization that covers many different cultures and focuses on economic cooperation <...> Türkiye attaches great importance to cooperation with the BRICS countries",

the Turkish Ambassador said.
