The Minister of Environment and Urban Development of Turkey, Murat Kurum, informed that the plan for the construction of the Istanbul Canal, designed to become a new water artery connecting the Black and Marmara Seas, was approved.
"We approved the Istanbul Canal plan after examining all requests and objections," he wrote on Twitter, noting that "we will quickly take steps to ensure that the canal serves the benefit of our city."
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly stated that "soon there will be a tender for the implementation of the Istanbul Canal, which will run parallel to the Bosphorus," TASS reports.
