Turkey changing government

Turkey changing government

The Turkish government is awaiting major changes, political analysts said in an interview to Vestnik Kavkaza, commenting on the expected resignation of the Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, and the appointment of the new chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party, Binali Yildirim, to form a new Cabinet of Ministers.

Thus, the political  analyst Orhan Gafarli explained that with the change of the prime minister in the executive branch in Turkey, many areas of domestic and foreign policy will change as well. ‘’There is no official information about whom Yıldırım will enlist to his team, but we already know that several former functionaries were excluded from the lists, in the first place there is the Prime Minister's assistant, Numan Kurtulmush, the Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, and the deputy chairman of the AKP, Mehmet Ali Sahin. The composition of the government will be adjusted to resolve acute issues of the economy and foreign policy, ‘’ he said.

"In this regard, it is likely that there will be a change in the leadership of the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The approach to the management of the republic will be changed  definitely, because the previous prime minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, held the position of maintaining balanced growth in the economy and foreign trade, but today another task has been set: instead of regular growth of 3-4%, it is necessary to achieve the result of 6-7%. The former Cabinet of Ministers, it is believed, was not able to implement this task,’’ Gafarli said.

With regard to foreign policy, here Turkey is awaiting a speedy restoration of the old policy. ‘’The motto of returning to the old times, to the traditional foreign policy of Ankara, to the old approach, is now popular in the country. Note that recently Mevlut Cavusoglu said that it would not be a fast process, even through changing people, so that the restoration would need some time. Therefore, it is most likely that he will be replaced. I will remind you that Turkey's traditional foreign policy after the 1990s is an orientation to the Turkish world, the development of relations with the European Union and more emphasis on US contacts. The Arab world will stay aside at the same time. These are the most likely changes in the government’s plans, to be followed by the changes in the composition of the ministers,’’ the analyst said.

Another political analyst, Hussein Altynalan, said that the composition of the new government of Turkey is the main political intrigue in the republic after the election of the chairman of the ruling party, Binali Yildirim, and those who make decisions, are keeping them in secret, making it difficult to make any forecasts.

"It is hard to imagine what the changes will be in the government and how it will differ from the Cabinet of Davutoglu. As we saw during the last week, it was difficult to guess even the contenders for the post of the head of the AKP, because it was just about three or four people. The only thing of which we can be sure is that in the current situation, no doubt there will be surprises in terms of new names in the cabinet of Binali Yildirim,’’ Hussein Altynalan said.
