Turkey's security council advises extending state of emergency

The Turkish National Security Council said in a statement that it had advised the cabinet of ministers to extend the country's state of emergency by three months following a referendum that narrowly accorded the president vast new powers.

The MGK meeting is to convene at the Presidential Complex under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Hurriyet Daily reported.

Turkey declared a state of emergency soon after a coup attempt last July.
